YHC presents Fine Arts Events for February

Young Harris College (YHC) invites the community to attend fine arts events in February. All events will take place on the YHC campus, which is located at 1 College St., Young Harris, Georgia 30582. Enjoy the following events.  On Saturday, February 11, at 7pm, YHC’s Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society will present “Unlucky in Love,” the annual Valentine’s Day Cabaret Fundraiser in Suber Banquet Hall. Talented students will perform a variety of short musical and dramatic bits related to the themes of love and heartbreak. Tickets include the show and desserts and are $15 per person and $25 per couple. Cash or check only. Plan ahead as seating is limited! You can call 706-379-5182 for additional details.  On Tuesday, February 14, at 7pm, the Faculty Artist Recital featuring Dr. Richard Knepp and the Romantic Guitar will be held in Susan B. Harris Chapel. Admission is free.  On Tuesday, February 21, at 7pm, the Mu Phi Epsilon Member Recital will be held in Glenn~McGinnis Hall. Admission is free; donations are welcome.  From Wednesday, February 22, through Saturday, February 25, Theatre Young Harris will present “The Robber Bridegroom” by Alfred Uhry at Dobbs Theatre, Goolsby Center. Written by Alfred Uhry with music by Robert Waldman, “The Robber Bridegroom” is a darkly comic South fairytale set in eighteenth-century Mississippi. The musical follows a rascally yet charming bandit in love with the only daughter of the richest plantation owner in the land. Their courtship goes awry thanks to a wicked stepmother, an evil thief, and a talking head in a trunk. This bluegrass musical is loaded with innuendo, mistaken identities, and wacky hijinks. The “Pay What You Can” Preview is Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 7pm. Regular performances are Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7pm, Friday, Feb. 24, at 7pm, and Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors 65+ or with YHC ID. Contributions are accepted during the “Pay What You Can” Preview. The Box Office is open Monday through Friday from 3–5pm in the lobby of Goolsby Center and at 706-379-4307. Tickets are also available online at yhc.edu/boxoffice. Plan ahead as seating is limited!  On Tuesday, February 28, at 7pm, Adjunct Instructor of Theatre Gina Dropp presents “Call It Surviving – A Queer Drama,” an original staged reading for mature audiences. The performance will be in Dobbs Theatre, Goolsby Center. Admission is free; donations are welcome.
