Yellow and Red Lights will raise Awareness about Education Options Nationwide

From Alaska to New York, America will light up in yellow and red to raise awareness about K-12 education opportunities during National School Choice Week 2021, which is celebrated January 24-30.  More than two dozen iconic landmarks or notable buildings will light up for the Week, including the Anchorage JL Tower in Alaska, the Big Four Bridge at Waterfront Park in Kentucky and Indiana, the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge in Nebraska and Indiana, Niagara Falls and the Helmsley Building in New York, the King and Queen Towers in Atlanta, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio.  The landmarks’ sparkling red and yellow lights will play a role in the safe, socially-distanced festivities for National School Choice Week 2021. Families are invited to capture pictures of the landmarks lights, or their own at-home red and yellow light displays, to share on social media with the hashtag #SchoolChoiceWeek.  National School Choice Week shines a spotlight on effective education options for children and is the world’s largest celebration of opportunity in K-12 education. As a not-for-profit effort, the Week focuses equally on traditional public, charter, magnet, online, private, and home education options.  In addition to the light displays, National School Choice Week 2021 will feature more than 33,000 celebrations across the country, including social media contests, drive-in movie screenings, virtual school fairs, and drive-thru scavenger hunts, to raise awareness about school choice across all 50 states.  Year-round, National School Choice Week develops resources and guides to assist families searching for schools or learning environments for their children.  This January will mark the eleventh anniversary of National School Choice Week, which began in 2011. The week is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, and does not seek to promote the passage or defeat of legislation.  More information and resources for journalists covering the Week can be found at schoolchoiceweek.com/coverage.
