Wreck results in vehicle fire, one injured

During the early morning hours on Tuesday, a car became airborne before shortly after catching fire as a result of an angry driver running them off the road.

Deputies from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office and Rabun County Fire Services were dispatched to a wreck that occurred just past O’Sage Farms on 441 N.

According to a witness report, a driver in a maroon Honda pulled out in front of a Chrysler Limited at Cathy Road in Rabun Gap.

The witness told deputies it appeared as if the Honda “was mad and was intentionally swerving at the Chrysler,” which ultimately caused the Chrysler to travel off the roadway becoming airborne over a large culvert, before striking an embankment.

The driver escaped the vehicle just before it ignited and required firefighters from RCFS to extinguish the flames.

The driver of the Chrysler was transported via Rabun County EMS to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment of sustained injuries from the wreck.

No information has been released whether or not the driver of the Honda will be charged.
