Wreck on 76 E results in double fatality

An elderly couple from Fanning County was pronounced dead after a tragic accident landed them at the bottom of an embankment off 76 East.

It was all hands on deck for law enforcement as well as Rabun County EMS and Rabun County Fire Services who were notified of the accident around 1 p.m. Thursday.

According to the Georgia State Patrol who had jurisdiction over the wreck, a couple from McCayseville, Georgia were traveling west on 76 East when the driver, Tommy Foster, 83, failed to maintain his lane of travel and headed towards the south shoulder.

Their vehicle then overturned and came to a final rest on its right side, in a creek.

Both the driver and passenger sustained fatal injuries.
