Woman Struck by Cars in NC

By Keith Giles, WFSC, Franklin

The North Carolina Highway Patrol indicates a Franklin woman was hit and injured by two cars earlier this week.

It’s unclear at this time why the pedestrian, identified as 29 year old Miranda Vaughn, was walking down Highway 441 early on Tuesday morning, but State Trooper Leah McCall says it was raining and dark and Vaughn was wearing dark clothes and talking on a cell phone.

Vaughn was reportedly walking in the southbound lane of Highway 441 around 6:30 a.m. when she was struck by the mirror of an oncoming car. That car, driven by Rila Reese of Franklin, flipped Vaughn into the air, and then a second car ran over her ankles.

That vehicle was driven by Vanessa Mashburn of Franklin. Neither driver was able to see the victim, according to McCall.

Vaughn sustained several broken bones but is expected to make a full recovery.
