‘Winterfest’ Coming to Clayton

A contest to bring snow to the city of Clayton throughout the month of February is gearing up.

“Winterfest,” a contest for the best snowman and snow displays, is being sponsored by the city of Clayton.

Clayton City Manager Cissy Henry explained the idea.

“‘Winterfest’ is a new event we have created this year just to have some activities going on in town,” said Henry. “What we want to do is have winter displays either in store fronts or in outside areas, secure, of course.”

Both non-profit organizations and businesses are encouraged to put up a display and participate.

The displays need to be up by January 31st, and remain up until March 9th when awards will be given out in five different categories, with one, the citizenship award, being given a prize based on money raised through monetary votes given to displays.

“We ‘re just trying to have some activities through these months,” said Henry. “I’m not sure we’re going to get any snow, so we’ll just make our own.”
