Windstream promising faster speed internet to Rabun, North Georgia

Windstream announced recently the completion of a major broadband upgrade for Rabunites and all north Georgians alike — about 71,000 consumers will now have access to 300 megabits per second (Mbps) high-speed Kinetic Internet.

Windstream began delivering broadband over its cable TV network for the first time in 2017 with speeds up to 100 Mbps.

According to the president of Windstream operations in Georgia J. Berkshire, Windstream is delivering on the promise it made last year to boost Internet speeds for 67,000 households, exceeding that goal by over 4,000 homes.

The newly available bandwidth will allow more consumers faster speeds. With 300 Mbps Kinetic Internet, a family will be able to download songs in as little as two seconds, download HD movies in minutes or stream shows in HD on multiple screens simultaneously.

“Windstream is committed to bringing best-in-class Internet and entertainment services to our customers in communities across all of Georgia,” Berkshire said. “That’s why we’re using a variety of technologies – software enhancements, fiber expansion that includes fiber to the premise and shorter loop lengths and, increasingly, fixed wireless – to meet customer demand for faster broadband speeds.”
