Windstream CEO Responds to Collins’ Letter

From WLHR Radio, Lavonia

Windstream CEO Tony Thomas has responded to a letter sent by Congressman Doug Collins two weeks ago. Thomas says that his company is working throughout North and Northeast Georgia to upgrade its Internet and telephone services.

In his letter, Thomas said in 2015, Windstream invested some $60 million to make upgrades to every part of the network – from neighborhood network nodes, to regional network facilities, to the cables that connect it all together. He says that means most customers in the Ninth District now have faster Internet speeds up to 100 megabits per second.

Thomas said to date, 77 percent of the locations Windstream serves in the Ninth Congressional District can get Internet speeds up between 10 and 100 megabits per second and 40 percent of the locations can get at least 20 Mbps.

Thomas said the Company expects that coverage to expand to 97 percent by end of 2016.

Thomas concluded his letter by inviting Congressman Collins to meet with him in person to discuss the issues.
