Winds Cause Power Outages, Down Trees

The high wind advisory in this area caused by Hurricane Sandy has taken it’s toll.

Habersham EMC says that from 4am Monday through 4am this morning, approximately 3,500 customers were without power due to the wind sending tees into power lines.

It is reported that most of those customers were scattered throughout Rabun County, however, some Habersham EMC outages have been reported in White and Habersham Counties as well.

As far as roads are concerned, Darren Giles with the Rabun County Road Department said that they have had some trees to deal with, not as many as anticipated.

“We probably picked up somewhere in the neighborhood of 8-10 trees yesterday,” said Giles. “I actually expected a lot worse from the wind. We did have more trees down than normal, but basically, that’s all that’s happened.”

Winds are expected to begin to calm down throughout the rest of the week.
