Wind Advisory issued for Rabun County

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Piedmont North Carolina, Western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina, and Northeast Georgia, including Rabun County from 1pm Friday, March 3, 2023, until 1am on Saturday, March 4, 2023.  A strong cold front is expected to move into the mountains this afternoon and track east across the Piedmont late afternoon through mid-evening.  Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 to 50 mph are expected at times.  Conditions will be sufficient for the development of scattered strong to severe thunderstorms. Damaging winds appear to be the primary threat with these thunderstorms, with a secondary threat of tornadoes, which most likely would be short-lived.  Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects.  Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.  Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle.  Secure outdoor objects.
