Wildcats travel to play Rebels on Friday

The high school football season kicks off this Friday, August 19, 2022.  The Rabun County Wildcats varsity football travels to Tallapoosa to play the Haralson County Rebels in a non-conference game.  It’s the first game of the season for the Wildcats under new Head Coach Mike Davis.  “We’re excited.  It’s game week and we get to play somebody different.  We had a really good camp but our kids are ready to play somebody else.”  Coach Davis says the Rebels will be a tough first opponent.  “They run a version of the single-wing.  It’s something that really fits their personnel, they’re a big, strong, physical team.  They’ve had a lot of success over the years with it.  They’ve had some kids that have had a lot of yards rushing.  They’re not going to throw the ball a whole lot.  They’re looking to get 3-4 yards, just milk the clock, and make it as short a game as possible.  They’re very, very physical and that is what scares us.  What they do is something that you have to plan for, our defensive staff has been working on them a little bit all summer with their plan.  I know Coach Peavey from the years I was at Calhoun, we were in the region with Haralson and so I’m familiar with playing them and having played there.  It will be a tough atmosphere but we are looking forward to it.”  The Wildcats versus Rebels varsity football game kicks off at 7:30pm.  If you can’t make it to the game in Tallapoosa, you can listen live on Sky 96.3.
