Wildcat Athletics: Two Wildcats Named to All-State Preseason Team

With football season kicking off in less than a month, many state publications are revealing their region, playoff, and state champion predictions, as well as naming their preseason all-state teams. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, two Wildcats are expected to have great seasons.

Junior Quarterback Bailey Fisher and Senior Punter Noah Cannon were named to the AA Preseason Team by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as released by Georgia High School Football Daily on Tuesday morning.

Cannon averaged 35.4 yards per punt in 2015 as a junior for the Wildcats, his long being a 61-yard bomb. He also handled 18 kickoffs last season. Cannon currently has an offer from Army West Point.

Bailey Fisher being named to the AJC All-State Preseason team was a surprise to everyone who is not a Wildcat fan, as Heard County Quarterback and Ohio State commit, Emory Jones, is projected to be one
of the best, if not the best, quarterback in all of GHSA. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said of the Fisher selection, “QB Emory Jones of Heard County, wasn’t picked, as Rabun County’s Bailey Fisher has had a more productive career to this point.” Fisher’s numbers back up that statement, as he tossed 38 touchdowns to only 6 interceptions, and was 64 yards away from throwing for 3,000 yards in 2015. Jones threw for 1,213 yards and 14 touchdowns, while rushing for 2 more touchdowns.

Head Coach Lee Shaw is rightfully proud of Cannon and Fisher’s selections.

“Both players earned that recognition by being committed to their skill set and competing for Rabun County on Friday nights.” says Shaw, “(It’s) an honor. This team, school, and community are very proud of them.”

Rabun County kicks off the 2016 season next Friday, as they travel to Franklin High School for a preseason scrimmage. The season officially begins on August 26th in Alpharetta, against Mount Pisgah Christian.
