Week one of early voting reflects strong turnout

Rabun County voters have been turning up in force to cast their early voter ballots in the upcoming 2018 Georgia General Election.

Rabun County Election Supervisor Tammy Whitmire said in the first week of early voting, nearly 2,000 people have cast their votes in person at the Board of Elections Office located at 19 Jo Dotson Circle.

“So an update on what’s been happening in early voting as of today, Tuesday, Oct. 23 we have had 1,985 people come in and vote in person absentee here in the office,” Whitmire said. “So that’s a great start. We have all the way until Nov. 2 to cast our ballot early. So you can come by the office anytime between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.”

For those who work throughout the week but still would like to cast their ballot, Whitmire said this upcoming Saturday will be the only weekend opportunity for early voting.

“Remember, this Saturday, Oct. 27 is our only Saturday voting we will be having,” she said. “We will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.”

Whitmire added that she has already received 591 absentee paper ballots.

“We’ve also received 591 absentee paper ballots. It’s not too late if you want to vote via paper ballot. Just call the office and we would be glad to get an application sent out to you,” she said. “You’ll have plenty of time left as long as that ballot is back to me by Nov. 6.”
