Watch Out for Drivers Turning Left in Mountain City

Officials urging motorists to be careful when turning left in Mountain City, as several accidents have occurred over the past few weeks.

At the end of April, a truck was turning left off of Highway 441 North just past the Dollar General when another vehicle rear ended the Toyota Tacoma, ending with one car catching fire, and on Wednesday, a minivan was turning left and was rear ended as well.

Mountain City Police Chief Tom Garrison said that type of accident is all too common on that stretch of Highway 441.

“There’s so many accidents on that stretch of road from north of Clayton to Rabun Gap,” said Garrison. “It’s just dangerous.”

Garrison encourages all drivers to be careful in that area.

“Pay attention to vehicles that are turning,” cautioned Garrison. “Take a little extra time to slow down when you come through Mountain City.”

In the wrecks mentioned above, no serious injuries were reported.
