Update on Rabun County Redundancy Water Project

At its recent meeting, the Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority was given an update on phase II and III of the Rabun County redundancy water project by General Manager Brendan Thompson.  “Phase II is our new water storage tank, which will be on Yorkhouse Road behind the Elk Facility.  We are looking to have that project out to bid by late August.  That will be a 750,000-gallon concrete ground-level tank that will provide extra capacity to the Rabun County community.  It will allow us to bring water to the City of Clayton by gravity, which will cut some of our electrical costs and provide the necessary capacity, both from the south and north to make sure we meet the ever-growing needs of our community.  Phase III is our Wolffolk Road water main extension, which is about 15,000 linear feet of 8-inch line, which will run from Wolffork Baptist Church back to 441.  We are putting that in to improve for two reasons, to improve our operational aspects of running our northern system where will have a complete loop to supply water south and to provide water to folks on Wolffork Road and provide fire protection.”  Both of those projects are still in the planning phases with construction anticipated to begin later this year.
