Unemployment Down Slightly

The Georgia Department of Labor announces the Georgia Mountain Region’s unemployment rate for August.

In August, unemployment decreased by four tenths of a percentage point to 7.8 percent from 8.2 percent in July.

The 7.8 percent unemployment rate is also down from the rate of 8.7 percent in August of last year.

Rabun County’s unemployment rate also decreased, dropping to 11.8 percent. In July, Rabun County’s unemployment rate was 12.3 percent.

Regionally, both Habersham and Stephens Counties have an unemployment rate of just over 9 percent, while Towns County has an unemployment rate of 7.9 percent.
