Two People arrested for DUI in Rabun County

Deputies of the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office recently made two driving under the influence (DUI) arrests in the county.  On June 12, a deputy responded to an accident on Old 441 South at its intersection with Saga Mountain.  A 2001 GMC Sierra had driven into a ditch.  The deputy spoke with the driver, 25-year-old Tyler Morgan Darnell of Lakemont, who stated that he was trying to see what the truck had and gassed it but lost control and wrecked it in the ditch.  The deputy smelled alcohol on his breath.  After failing field sobriety tests, Darnell was arrested for DUI and issued a citation for reckless conduct with an automobile.  On June 18, a deputy responded to Charlie Mountain Road near Silverback Lane in reference to a motor vehicle crash.  A 2002 Jeep Wrangler was located 20 yards off the roadway behind trees.  The deputy spoke to the driver, 55-year-old Clayton Edward Lawrence of Atlanta, and noticed he had bloodshot watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol.  Lawrence refused to participate in field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI, and issued citations for driving while license suspended, failure to maintain lane, and defective tires.
