Two Incidents involving Station 12 during Severe Storm

Two incidents involving members of Fire Station 12 in Rabun County occurred during the severe storm that swept through Rabun County Monday morning.  Rabun County Assistant Fire Chief Justin Upchurch gives details. “At 3:15am, Stations 12, 1, and 4 were dispatched to 1010 Bethel Road for a structure fire.  Dispatch advised that it was a Volunteer Firefighters residence and he was en route to get a Fire Engine from Fire Station 12 in Tiger. When the first personnel arrived, there was fire through the roof in the kitchen area of the house.  The fire was brought under control but the interior sustained severe damage as well as the roof and one exterior wall. The cause is under investigation but is believed to be electrical in nature. While en route to the scene, the Captain of Fire Station 12 was traveling east on Bridge Creek Road and struck a tree that had fallen across the road.  He ducked in time and the impact sheered the top of his Chevy S10. He was checked by EMS and found to have only minor scrapes and scratches.”  Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in either incident.  Rabun County Fire Services covers 361 square miles with 12 Volunteer Fire Stations and 200 Volunteer Firefighters.
