Two Arrested after Cocaine is Found

Two are arrested, and a large amount of cocaine is seized after a traffic stop Wednesday night.

Wednesday evening, a patrolman with the Georgia State Patrol initiated a traffic stop on Highway 441 near the Rabun County High School.

Herman Chronic with the Mountain Judicial Circuit NCIS team said that during the traffic stop, there were some indications of illegal contraband inside of the vehicle.

Chronic explains what was found after gaining consent from the driver to search the vehicle, and calling in both Deputies from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office and the Canine Unit from Habersham County.

“We subsequently found five kilos of cocaine packaged up in airtight packages a little bit larger than a brick,” said Chronic. “The value of all the kilos that we recovered was $150,000, according the to State of Georgia Standardized Drug Values.”

Two men were arrested as a result of the stop; Randy Ray Reed of Warsaw Missouri, and Hector Daniel Chavez of Sedalia, Missouri.

Reed was booked into the Rabun County Detention Center charged with trafficking cocaine, illegal possession of a controlled substance, and a seatbelt violation.

Chavez was booked into the Rabun County Detention Center charged with driving while license withdrawn.
