Twelve Week Old in ICU, Family Calling for Support

A family with local ties is calling for support following a car accident last month.

On July 21st of this year, the Wimpy family was involved in a tragic accident in Lumpkin County. Jon and Aften Wimpy and their three children were on their way to Dawsonville after Jon had been transferred there from his job here in Clayton when they were involved in a head-on collision, according to Aften’s step-father, Doug Berliner.

The youngest child, who was 8 weeks old at the time of the crash, is still in ICU at Egleston, hooked up to a breathing and feeding tube.

Berliner explained exactly what the family’s current situation is regarding Jon and Aften’s now 12 week old son.

“The challenge is, he is going to have to be on that for about a year, minimum,” said Berliner. “He will require two care givers 24/7. It may require Jon, the dad, to quit his job and his job will be taking care of their son. Aften is still recovering from her injuries and will have to use a walker for 6 months.”

Aften Wimpy is the daughter of Rabun County native Becky Simmons Berliner and the grand-daughter of the late George and Claudene Simmons of Tiger. In addition, she is the grand-daughter of Floyd and Barbara Bramblett of Clayton.

A fund to receive donations to help with medical expenses is set up at the Community Bank and Trust. More details can be seen at www.helpthewimpyfamily.com.
