Trunk or Treaters’ turn out in force

Trunk or Treat held Halloween night at the Rabun County Recreation Department was a huge success according to Department Director Roy Quilliams.

More than 1,200 kids turned out in force to join in on the community fun traveling trunk to trunk visiting the various decorated trunks from community organizations such as Paws 4 Life and Rabun County Fire Services amongst others.

Quilliams reflected on the origins of Trunk or Treat.

“We had five, six or seven hundred people when we first started and were surprised and pleased. Then the second year, the line stretched all the way to the end of the road and we thought we better move it to another location,” he said. “Ever since, it’s been a great success. The last three years have been very similar to last nights turnout, I’d say two to three thousand in the very least.”

Quilliams said the last two years have been very similar as far as turnout goes.

“The last few years have been very comfortable but last year and this year were some of our biggest turnouts,” he said.

Next year, Quilliams hopes to incorporate an individual who could get an exact headcount of total trick or treaters who visit the Trunk or Treat event.

As far as any intentions of profiting from the popular event, Quilliams said he plans to keep it a free community happening.

Lastly, Quilliams thanked all who attended and made Trunk or Treat a huge success.
