Traffic Stop leads to Drowning in Tallulah Falls

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office reports that on June 7, 2021, deputies were requested by the Georgia State Patrol to assist with a traffic stop in Tallulah Falls. While deputies were en route, one of the subjects involved in the traffic stop fled and entered the river on foot. Attempts were made to immediately find the subject including the use of the Georgia Department of Corrections K9 team but were unsuccessful. Due to the location of the foot chase, it was feared that the individual may have drowned in their attempt to cross the river.  Rabun County Search and Rescue was requested to assist with the search. After multiple searches of the river were conducted, the Rabun County Search and Rescue team located the body submerged in the river.  The following agencies responded to the incident, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia State Patrol, the Tallulah Falls Police Department, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, Rabun County EMS, the Rabun County Corner, the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, Rabun County Search and Rescue, and the Habersham Sheriff’s Office.
