Traffic Stop Leads to an Arrest in Mountain City

A Maysville man was arrested in Mountain City on Wednesday on a few charges.

The Mountain City Police Department made a traffic stop on Georgia Highway 15 after the Southbound vehicle driven by James McDaniel, aged 30, of Maysville was travelling in excess speeds. Mountain City Police Department Officer Cary Brown describes the traffic stop.

“The Suspect’s vehicle was traveling approximately 94 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour speed zone. I actually got the guy pulled over around North Johnson Avenue. (the driver) seemed to be a little bit nervous, and a little bit agitated.”

The suspicious activity prompted the Police to search the vehicle. Once granted permission, the police found something extra in the door of Mr. McDaniel’s vehicle, drugs and hypodermic needles, according to Brown.

As far as what the drug was, and the exact amount, that has yet to be determined. Brown says that the department will contact the Appalachian Drug Task Force, because the amount is not certain at this time.

James McDaniel was arrested and transported to the Rabun County detention center. Charges are pending.
