Time Running Out for Potential Write-In Candidates

Time is running out for anyone who wishes to attempt a write-in candidacy for a local seat.

Tammy Whitmire said that the last day to do so is coming up.

“The last day, if a person is interested in being a write-in candidate for the upcoming November 6th General Election, is September 4th.”

In order to become a write-in candidate, state regulations say one must put a notice in the newspaper ahead of time and fill out an affidavit to put on file at the elections office.

There are some restraints on who can run as a write-in candidate, as Whtimire explained.

“A person cannot be a write-in candidate if they previously lost in the Primary in July,” said Whitmire. “Any one other than that can throw their name in the arena.”

Whitmire also reminds everyone that the deadline for voter registration is coming up on October 8th.
