Three arrested on drug charges

CLAYTON The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office arrested three out of state individuals who were transporting varying amounts of marijuana and opium.

Last Wednesday, January 31 a sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle on Georgia State Route 15 for what was originally a busted tail light.

Upon further inspection, a locked blue box was located in the vehicle which according to law enforcement, smelled strongly of marijuana.

A search warrant was obtained and inside the box, deputies found a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana.

As a result, the following individuals were taken to the Rabun County Detention Center and booked on related charges:

Zachary Desmond Stewart, 22, Canton, North Carolina, Possession of a Scheduled I or II Narcotic – Controlled Substance, Possession of Firearm or Knife Commision of a Crime, Crossing State/County Guard Lines with Weapons, Prescription Drugs Must be in their Original Containers and Possession of Marijuana Less than One Ounce.

Joseph Diz, 26, Sylva, North Carolina, Possession of Marijuana Less than One Ounce and Driving Without a License.

Kimberly Natasha Owle, 25, Sylva, North Carolina, Possession of Marijuana Less than One Ounce.

The arresting officer was also later informed upon their arrival at the detention center that Stewart had been carrying on him a plastic bag full of pills consistent in nature to that of Oxycodone further charges were taken.
