Thoughts and Prayers with Texas Community after School Shooting

After the horrible act of gun violence at a school in Texas, Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols is thankful that School Resource Officers (SRO) are stationed and trained at each public school in the county.  “To have that happen with that many young lives taken and the teachers, I have younger kids and so, that really hit home with me.  I’m thankful the school system and us were able to work together and provide an SRO in every school.  There is also one there at the gate.  We have a good security plan and there are other security measures in place there as well that people don’t know about that were put in place that hopefully combat or hopefully even deter something from even happening.  But of course, that community I saw was about 16,000 people and we are right there with 16-17,000 people so there are a lot of similarities with the area, and like I said with my kids being young I feel safe taking my kids there even after this tragedy.  I think us and the school system partnered together to get a good thing in place for several years now we have had that.  As far as the deputies, they take a lot of training in the summers and some of that is geared towards being able to handle a situation if it were to happen.  Just thank the Lord it hasn’t and we pray that it won’t.  But my prayers and thoughts go out to the people out there in that small town in Texas.”  Thanks to the SROs in the Rabun County School System for all their hard work and training to keep our kids safe at school each day.
