Things to know on Rabun’s primary election day

CLAYTON — Tuesday is election day, and although the polls will be closed Monday, Elections Supervisor Tammy Whitmire said she would like to remind the public of polling dos and don’ts for when they reopen.

Rabun County currently has one polling place, the Rabun County Civic Center, located at 201 West Savannah Street in Clayton, Georgia. This is the location where votes are to be cast on election day.

Whitmire said for voters on election day, the polling place will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. which will give the public ample time to cast their vote for the May 22 general election primary and nonpartisan election.

As of Friday morning, Whitmire said a total of 1,373 people participated in the advance in-person early voting in the three week time period that it spanned to.

However, Whitmire added that portion is out of the 11,000 registered voters in Rabun County.

“We have around 11,000 registered voters and that includes what we call ‘active’ and ‘inactive’,” she said. “But they only use active numbers for the statistics which is reported on election night when we give the report of the percentage that we’ve had in we use the active voter numbers.”

With an expected high rate of foot traffic, Whitmire said it is important for people to keep in mind to bring a photo I.D, whether it be a passport or driver’s license.
