The ‘Deliverance of Rabun County’ Returns to Gather More Footage

The crew that is filming “The Deliverance of Rabun County” spoke with local residents on the last day of August.

The crew set up shop at the Amara Center and interviewed those who wished to drop by, as well as showing nearly 20 minutes of the film that is already complete.

Cory Welles, the producer of the film, was pleased with the reception to the small portion of the film that was shown, as it has opened conversations about the stigma some feel Deliverance left with Rabun County, which, as Welles said, is one of the goals of the film.

“You don’t have to not like it, and you don’t have to like it, but the idea is that people can talk about their experiences with it, and I think that’s how people heal,” said Welles. “I think that’s how people decide, ‘I’m not going to let this hold me down anymore.’ ”

Welles says they plan on returning in the fall when the leaves begin to change to gather more footage.
