Thanksgiving Safety

As many homes will be cooking a tasty Thanksgiving dinner, official warn everyone to be cautious in order to keep everyone safe.

Deputy Lisa Thompson with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office is the coordinator of Safe Kids Rabun, and she said to make sure you are careful while cooking those scrumptious holiday meals.

“The leading cause of fires is the kitchen with unattended cooking, and most fires involve the stove top,” said Thompson. “And we ask people if there is an unfortunate where there is something that catches fire, immediately call 911 and get everyone out of the house.”

Some tips Thompson gives to prevent any fires or injuries include keeping flammable materials such as potholders and paper towels away from the stove, and creating a kid free zone around the stove.

Thompson also reminds everyone to stay in the kitchen while cooking.

Have a fun and safe Thanksgiving!
