Week ending August 8

Dani Prince – Cross Country

High School Girl

Though hurdling in track & field is her primary sport and event, freshman Dani Prince worked diligently all summer long to improve her stamina, power and running form for the upcoming harrier season. She set personal records in the weight room, already improved her 5k times and continues to be an encouraging teammate and role model. -Cross country coach Scott Neal

Walker Bailey – Cross Country

High School Boy

Sophomore cross country runner Walker Bailey has already set two 5k personal records this summer. Running additional sessions over the summer and a strengthened set of goals combined to lead a summer to remember. I’m quite proud of how Walker has become a true cross country competitor, a role model of work ethic and an admirable teammate. -Cross country coach Scott Neal

Julia Smith – Volleyball

Middle School Girl

Eighth grader Julia Smith has worked over the summer practicing and working out/training. Julia took full advantage of voluntary workouts during the summer and has definitely grown in several areas since last season. Julia has improved and continues to improve each day at our practices. I can’t wait to see her advancement by the end of the season. -MS volleyball coach Whittney LaHayne

Dalton Blackwell – Cross Country

Middle School Boy

Dalton Blackwell, a seventh grader, returned to his second season of middle school cross country with his contagious, joyful effort in each of the varieties of training. Whether continuous or interval running or circuit training, Dalton certainly gives his best while exploring the surroundings, digging deep to see how fast he can go, or just enjoying the moment. He is a delight to coach and to see develop as a runner and GREAT teammate. -Cross country coach Scott Neal

Week ending August 15

Katy Corbett – Volleyball

High School Girl

Katy Corbett led the way for her term this opening week of volleyball matches. She led the way with the most kills for the week. Katy also led her team with the best passing week of her career. Most importantly she led her team with energy and an all-around GREAT attitude pushing and encouraging her teammates. -coach Matt Heyl

Colton Augustine – Cross Country

High School Boy

Junior harrier Colton Augustine has worked diligently throughout the summer, running, conditioning in the weight room, and being a source of motivation. He needs no fanfare; instead, he simply brings his lunch pail mentality, focuses on the task at hand, and gets to work. Loyal to teammates while being a significant behind-the-scenes encourager, Colton creates and fills a role on the team that is critical. -coach Scott Neal

Ryleigh Wilson – Volleyball

Middle School Girl

Ryleigh Wilson is new to our volleyball program this year at TFS. Over the past couple of weeks, Ryleigh has worked hard and taken every piece of advice Coach Satterfield and I have given her. She has advanced in a short amount of time and I cannot wait to see how far she will go this season. -coach Whittney LaHayne

TJ Cox – Tennis

Middle School Boy

TJ Cox is always ready to practice, ready to play, and then is wanting to know if there is something to do as far as helping clean up before leaving practice. TJ is our #2 man on the singles tennis team and striving each day to win the #1 spot. I see good things in the future for this young man. -coach Lisa Wilcox

Week ending August 22

Jenna Chesser – Cross Country

High School Girl

Frosh Jenna Chesser won the junior varsity division of the NE GA Championship at Athens Christian, running an intelligent, steady pace to separate from other contenders in the last, forest portion of the race. The way she competed was a major breakthrough, an example for teammates about how to race, and a confidence boost. Jenna is showing significant power in the weight room while also challenging teammates simply by the day to day pursuit of personal improvement. -coach Scott Neal

Josh Jackson – Cross Country

High School Boy

When Josh Jackson joined cross country this year as a first-year member, he quickly chose to be an incredible teammate. He works diligently daily to improve fitness and running form, competes in the very essence of a harrier – attacks the constant mental nagging running in pain offers, and is proactive in setting the team above self, inspiring peers with words backed up by actions. -coach Scott Neal

Gemma Farris – Volleyball

Middle School Girl

This week I would like to recognize Gemma as our IOW. Gemma plays hard no matter the standing of the game. Win or lose she has heart, determination, and hustle for every point. Her positive attitude, important in all sports, can be contagious and we need her positivity to spread! Gemma is one of our stronger players this year and we are excited to have her and the contributions she brings to the team. As she learns to perfect the skills of volleyball she will grow to be unstoppable on the court. -coach Whittney LaHayne

Eighth grader Jason Bard, in his first cross country race, ran 13:58 on the wet Athens Christian 3K course to place in the top third of the more than 100 runners.
