Suspect involved in Toccoa and Stephens County Shootings has been Arrested

The suspect involved in shootings in Toccoa and Stephens County has been arrested  Sister station WNEG News Director Ethan Jordan gives details.  “WNEG News has received confirmation from the Toccoa Police Department of multiple shootings in Stephens County.  Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize confirmed the shooting at Buddy’s Kwik Stop, at the corner of Currahee Street and Big A Road happened on Sunday just after noon.  Mize says the Toccoa Police Department was alerted of a shots fired call at the Marathon Gas Station, known as Buddy’s Kwik Stop, and were on the scene in just a few minutes.  There were witnesses calling into the 911 center and giving information on the shooting when officers arrived at the gas station, where they found one male victim.  He was shot in the leg while in his vehicle.  After the shooting, the suspect exited the parking lot headed out onto Currahee Street.  The victim was stabilized by Stephens County EMS and airlifted to Gainesville to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and is now listed in stable condition.  The other shooting reportedly happened at Tony’s General Store on Highway 123.  Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley says there were two victims involved in the shooting that occurred at Tony’s General Store, one was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and the other to Stephens County Hospital.  Additionally, Shirley says he’s requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist in the investigation.  Mize tells WNEG News that at 12:55pm Erik Carter and Corp. Kenneth Frady performed a felony traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. The stop was on N. Big A Road at the Valero Gas Station.  The suspect was driving a white Ford Fusion Rental Car.  The driver was identified as 31-year-old Antuan Prather of Toccoa.  He was taken into custody without incident.”  Prather has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault.
