Superintendent says School Safety Plan Always Evaluated and Updated

The Rabun County School System responds to the tragedy which occurred in an elementary school in Connecticut this past Friday.

Regarding the shooting which took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, Rabun County School Superintendent Matt Arthur said that it is an incredibly sad situation.

“It impacts all of us any time children are killed and adults who are there to work with children are killed, it impacts us greatly. We are saddened by the tragedy and horror of all of it.”

Arthur said that the school system always makes sure their safety plan is evaluated and updated on a regular basis.

“We definitely sat down and took another look at our safety plan, and will continue work on it. When we wrote it, we didn’t just sit down and write it, we had outside people coming in, law enforcement, people that do that for a living, and so it is a very good plan. This is one that has never sat on our shelves and had dust put on it, because we don’t take it lightly.”

Twenty students were killed on Friday when a gunman entered a Connecticut elementary school.
