State Lawmaker Reaches Plea Agreement

A Georgia Lawmaker, who was arrested in April in Rabun County, reaches a plea agreement.

On Monday, before a Clayton City Court, State District 79 representative Tom Taylor of Dunwoody pled guilty to driving under the influence, and an open container violation. This stemming from a traffic stop with Clayton Police on April 7, when Taylor was stopped after going 72 miles per hour, in a 45 mile per hour zone. It was then, where Taylor took a breathalyzer test, and blew .225.

Under the plea agreement, the speeding charge will be dropped. However, Taylor has been fined just over $1,450, and has been placed on 12-months probation, 40 hours of community service, and faces restricted driving privileges.

According to his biography on house.ga.gov, Taylor represents district 79, which includes the city of Dunwoody, part of Chamblee, and part of Doraville in North DeKalb County, and was sworn into office following the 2010 election. In the May primary election, Taylor defeated Tom Owens with 72.6% of the vote, leaving him eligible for re-election in November.
