SPLOST to improve AG Program at RCHS

Thanks to voters, the agriculture program at Rabun County High School will soon see some improvements, explains Rabun County Schools Superintendent Dr. April Childers.  “We were so excited that the SPLOST referendum passed with a 71% pass rate.  It just shows us how much the community supports our school system and we are so thankful to have a community that supports us in this way.  I would like to update everybody and say that our plans are going to roll as quickly as possible with the SPLOST to complete the projects that we put out there.  We closed on the land for the Agricultural Center for the farm that we are adding to our high school program or extending rather.  We have an AG program but we are extending it to give kids more opportunities and we have actually closed on that land already and we are looking forward to getting the facilities built there.”  Students have already begun practicing for fall sports, adds Dr. Childers.  “Summer activities, we’re off to a good start there.  We’re following the Georgia High School Association’s guidance and we are able to start practice and those kinds of things for a couple of weeks now and we’re looking forward to that continuing through July.”  The Rabun County School System intends to reopen schools in person in accordance with the approved 2020-2021 calendar; however, that is subject to change.
