Senior Tax Exemption Still an Ongoing Topic

One of the more popular issues surrounding Rabun County these days, is the possible exemption of school tax for senior citizens. Many residents have opinions on this matter, and it has been an ongoing discussion at the Commissioners meetings, as well as the public forum at said meetings.

Those who are for the exemption want the commissioners to take action, but County Attorney Allyn Stockton says that it is not that easy. The proposal must be taken up by the State Legislature.

Even though the commissioners can’t make a decision one way or another on if the exemption takes effect, there is still a chance that this will show up on the November ballot. If it passes by a majority in the house, it can come back to the Commissioners for a General Referendum.

This issue is still ongoing.
