“Safe Kids” Comes to Rabun County

A Safe Kids Coalition comes to Rabun County.

Safe Kids Rabun is a program designed to help a community prevent unintentional childhood injuries.

Deputy Lisa Thompson with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office is the coalition coordinator. She explained some of the things that Safe Kids Rabun will focus on to help keep children safe.

“We’re talking about wearing our bicycle helmets, wearing your seat belts, making sure you have the proper car seat, water safety, hiking and trial safety. There are so many programs we want to implement in our community.”

She said the coalition will accomplish this by having car seat check stations, handing out smoke detectors, and helping to make sure that children have life vests when they are on one of Rabun County’s lakes.

The Safe Kids Coalition will have a launch meeting this coming Tuesday morning at the Rabun County Health Department.
