Rules when approaching Emergency Vehicle with Flashing Lights

The Georgia Department of Public Safety reminds motorists what to do when approaching a stationary emergency vehicle displaying flashing emergency lights.  According to the “move over law”, when approaching an authorized emergency vehicle with emergency lights flashing, drivers shall change into a lane not adjacent to the emergency vehicle, or slow to a reasonable speed less than the posted speed limit.  You may slow to a reasonable speed only if making the lane change is impossible or unsafe due to road and traffic conditions. Please keep first responders and tow truck drivers safe by always abiding by the move over law.
