Road Project Postponed in Clayton

The City of Clayton has asked for a postponement of paving a stretch of US Highway 76 West for a short amount of time.

According to the general contractor for Triangle Grading and Paving, Rick Brockman, he explains the reasoning behind postponing the project, and the area that is being paved.

“For several weeks, they have asked us to stop paving while they took care of some testing. Especially with the amount of vacation people have there at this time. We are probably going to start back on probably Wednesday or Thursday of next week. We are going to basically be working from the city limits of Clayton, towards the (Towns) County line, going west on Highway 76.”

Brockman says that the type of paving they are doing is called, “high friction surface treatment”, which is something that could be useful to Rabun County residents in the winter months. “What we are going back down with, is epoxy and a very hard stone. Which allows cars to have better friction in wet and icy weather” says Brockman.

Brockman warns of surfaces that have just been paved, by saying, “when in doubt, stay off of it.”
