Register for RCSO’s 2024 Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy

In continuing with our effort to educate and empower the community, the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office has opened registration for the 2024 Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy, which begins April 30, 2024, and will conclude with graduation on June 11, 2024. The academy will include seven one- to two-hour sessions taught by Sheriff’s Office staff. These sessions, which range from a history of law enforcement to K9 handling demonstrations, use of force, and constitutional/criminal law, are not just lectures. They are interactive experiences held in the Sheriff’s Office training room, featuring videos, discussions, and, in some cases, hands-on or simulator training. Sheriff Chad Nichols said of the academy, “It helps promote an increased understanding of what we do in the community, allows for transparency in how we train, and amplifies our community engagement efforts.” There is no cost to attend the law enforcement academy; the Sheriff’s Office simply asks that participants make every effort to attend all seven sessions. The class is limited to the first 20 who register, and a winter class is in the planning stages now.
