RCSO informs on what to do if illegal drugs are found

In recent light of drugs being found at a local convenience store, Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols informed the public on what to do should anyone else come across illegal drugs.

Last week the store owner of On the Run in Rabun Gap was sweeping the store around 9 p.m. when he located a small plastic baggie containing what authorities suspect to be methamphetamine.

The owner picked the bag up with a paper towel and immediately called the sheriff’s office who retrieved the illegal drug.

According to Nichols, the illegal drug was destroyed.

He encourages everyone who stumbles across any lost illegal drugs to call law enforcement so they can properly handle it.

Nichols also mentioned that there is a prescription drug drop off container located at the bottom level of the courthouse in the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office where anyone can drop off unused prescription medications to be properly disposed of.

Nichols said the Appalachian Reginal Drug Task Enforcement comes often to clean out the prescription drop off container and makes sure to dispose of the medication in a safe way so that it doesn’t end up in the wrong hands.

Lastly, Nichols emphasized the importance of contacting law enforcement to take possession of any drugs because many of them are very dangerous and could cause serious harm to someone’s health just by touching it.
