RCHS Repeats as Region 8AA One-Act Play Champion

Rabun County High School’s Wildcat Players won the Region 8AA championship, repeating as region champions for the second consecutive year and for the sixth time in twelve years.

The high school’s Fine Arts Department performed Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl at the Plaza Arts Center in Putnam County, Georgia. The team will represent the school and the region in the state competition on November 10 at Baldwin High School in Milledgeville, Georgia.

Along with the overall championship, senior Annalese Starzec also repeated as Best Female Performer and became one of only two RCHS students (along with Blake Browning) to win region Best Performer twice. Senior Allen Hughes was also selected as a member of the Region All-Star Cast, and the Fine Arts Department (Amy Jarrard) won Best Set.

Although the Wildcat Players have won the region championship several times in the past decade, this win was special in that it included efforts from the entire Fine Arts Department and from community volunteers.

The set award itself combined the drama students’ construction, the art students’ amazing painting skills, the student (junior September Stiles) director’s design, and Jenna Barry’s volunteer creation of a working door and an elevator indicator to bring a major set piece to life.

During the judges’ adjudication, students were not only praised for their acting ability but also for their vocal and instrumental talents, talents that have been inspired and strengthened by the RCHS choral (Jill Hunter) and band (Matt Leff) programs.
