Rain and Cooler Temperatures Aid Rabun’s Drought Status

Recent rains have helped Rabun County’s drought status, according to the latest report from the US Drought Monitor.

Last week, Rabun County, as well as a majority of North Georgia counties, was under a severe drought after receiving only three inches of rain over the course of a month. Last week, Rabun County received 1.34 inches of rain last week, but factoring in cooler temperatures from last week, the drought status has decreased to moderate, which is the second lowest on the scale.

The rains have helped other countries as well. Habersham, Hall, Stephens, and Hart County’s status have decreased. Portions of Banks, Jackson, Madison, and Franklin County’s still experience extreme drought conditions.
