Rabun recovering from flooding
As of Sunday, all flood gates that were originally opened are now closed on Lake Burton.
According to Rabun County EMA/SAR officials, Mathis Dam on Lake Rabun is down to 3 gates open.
The information comes after the county experienced a brief but significant bout of flooding from previous non-stop heavy rain sustained throughout the week, well into the weekend.
Several roads across the county saw some flooding. SAR responded to a vehicle in the water on Shady Lane Friday night and had to rescue a person that had slid off the road as the flood waters were rising and consumed the vehicle.
Luckily, no injuries were reported but public safety officials had their hands full with the rapidly rising water levels.
Current weather forecasts indicate that Rabun will see a temporary break from the rain, but Sky Meteorologist John Weatherbee predicts that the rain should pick back up late Tuesday/Wednesday.
