Rabun Good, Neighbors Not

While Rabun County fared very well through Tuesday’s storms, Neighboring Counties saw their share of trouble caused by the weather. An Oconee public safety responder says there is suspicion that in the storm that entered the county from Georgia on its way to Anderson this yesterday included a microburst–a column of sinking air caused by downdraft.  That according to Emergency Services in Oconee, based on the reports of damage in the area of Westminster where Power lines and trees were on the ground, and over in Stephens County,  Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that extremely high winds led to many fallen trees in the eastern side of Stephens County, including one on Shorewood Circle, near Lake Hartwell, where  an oak tree fell through the living and bedroom areas of a mobile home. There were also reports of over 300 losing power. No injuries were reported.
