Rabun Gap Eagles host University Christian Christians on Friday Night

The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School Eagles varsity football team hosts the University Christian Christians at Zavala Family Stadium this Friday, September 23, 2022.  The Eagles are 4-1 on the season and the Christians are 4-0.  Rabun Gap Director of Sports Information and Assistant to the Athletic Director, Coach Connor Cohea says the Eagles are ready to welcome the Christians to Zavala Family Stadium.  “We’re taking on a team coming all the way from Jacksonville, Florida.  This is a unique game and a big one for both teams.  We’ve got University Christian, who’s 4-0.  They’ve had a really good season.  Historically a very well-known program down there in Jacksonville. This year, they have a Power 5 Division I running back on their offense.  They‘ve got a quarterback, who can run the ball as well.  Kind of the opposite of what we were going up against last week.  Last week in Christ School, sort of an offense that passed the ball 90% of the time.  This week, we are facing an offense that runs the ball 90% of the time.  They are going to come in here not trying to do anything too fancy.  They have about four basic run packages that they do and they are going to say ‘Hey try to stop us.’  So, they are going to come in here with an attitude of wanting to run the football down our thoughts.  So, it is definitely a big week of keeping gap control, understanding our assignments, back to fundamentals, and of course, tackling is always number one.  Especially, when you are going up against a big, physical running back.  On their defensive side, they have really good linebackers, who are extremely fast.  Just watching them on tape, they cover a lot of ground in a hurry and they’re pretty good up front.  I know our offense has been working hard game planning for them and we feel like we have a good plan going into this week.  But, I just want to say last week was unbelievable the atmosphere and everything and we hope to see that again this week.  We are having Middle School Night and we hope to see another packed-out Zavala Family Stadium making some noise for your Eagles.  Again, if you are in the local area and have nothing to do on Friday night, come on down and check out the Rabun Gap Eagles.  You definitely won’t be disappointed.  It’s a great family event.”  The game kicks off at 7pm.  If you can’t make it to the game and don’t want to miss a touchdown or tackle, you can listen to Rabun Gap Eagles varsity football home games on Real Country 100.3.
