Rabun County updating Chapter 56 Zoning

Rabun County is in the process of updating its Chapter 56 zoning, explains Rabun County Board of Commissioners Chairman Greg James. “This is a process that we have been working on for over a couple of years now. As a matter of fact, the professional agency that we are using we’ve been engaged with them for two and a half years. So, it is not a process that we developed overnight, it was over many, many months of deliberation, counseling, and forming multiple committees to get input from professionals from many walks of life including the real estate community, other counties, other agencies, to try to determine based on our need what and how we need to approach zoning in this county so we can protect adjacent landowners.” One area being considered is solar farms, adds James. “We haven’t had that issue here but we know it is probably coming and we wanted to get ahead of the curve and be prepared for those requests for solar farms that may be coming down the road. The restrictions that we want, the lighting restrictions, setback requirements, etc. We think we have something that makes a great deal of sense in case we do or when we do get those requests.” This was the first reading and the second reading will take place at the October monthly meeting of the Rabun County Board of Commissioners.
