Rabun County under Increased Fire Danger

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Northeast Georgia, including Rabun County for Thursday, March 30, 2023.  There is an increased fire danger in effect from 1pm through the evening.  A dry continental air mass will remain over the area today. During the warmest part of the afternoon, relative humidity is expected to remain below 25 percent for 4 or more hours. Without recent precipitation, fuels such as dead brush and leaf litter are dry.  The combination of dry fuels and low relative humidity will result in increased fire danger in Northeast Georgia.  Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.  Also, windy conditions are expected to develop ahead of a cold front Friday night and become very windy behind the cold front Saturday and Saturday night. Wind gusts may become strong with downed trees and power lines possible.
