Rabun County to add Short-Term Rental Software

The Rabun County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved new short-term rental software at their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Rabun County Planning and Zoning Administrator Shylan Wood said this will help the county and the Marshals Office in the education, administration, and enforcement of the county’s short-term rental ordinance. “GOV OS is a software program, they specialize in local government-type software and helping local governments manage their fees and things of that nature. They are being used in some of the surrounding counties, Union County and Fannin County, and Gilmer County is fixing to come online with them as well. They approached us and wanted to know if we would be interested in seeing what they had to offer. Our current software program that we utilize was not near as good as what they offered, so after talking with some surrounding counties and seeing what GOV OS could do, we were able to sit down with them in several meetings and they were able to share everything that they can do. What GOV OS is going to be helping us with is chief compliance with the new short-term rental ordinance. I say new but it was brought on in December of 2022. It is going to be an online platform that the community can use to register their short-term rentals and there are going to be some educational elements as well that the community can go on and educate themselves about the ordinance. I think it is going to be a great benefit for the short-term rental community of Rabun County and Rabun County as a whole.” The new software should be online by the start of the county’s new fiscal year in July.
