Rabun County Sheriff receives Honor

Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols was recently honored by the Georgia Commission on Family Violence.  “I’m the co-chair of the Mountain Judicial Circuit Domestic Violence Task Force and we actually received Task Force of the Year this year from the Georgia Commission on Family Violence.  So, I went down last week to Athens to their annual conference. So, we received that award and that was an honor to be recognized throughout the state of Georgia.” The honor is something that the whole community can take pride in, continues Sheriff Nichols.  “We work with Fight Abuse In The Home (FAITH) and PowerHouse here in Rabun County and it is a great relationship and they do great things for our community. The main thing that I learned from being on the task force, I didn’t know much about it when I came in as sheriff but we have a lot of resources in our judicial circuit.  Our circuit includes Rabun, Habersham, and Stephens counties and it is good to know that we have a lot of resources for family violence, sexual assaults, child crimes, and stuff like that. So, we are excited and I thank the task force for the hard work that they do. It has been a good experience, I’ve enjoyed it, and I thank their hard and it showed by this recognition.”  If you are the victim of an assault, go to a safe place and call the police. The sooner you report the crime, the greater the chances your attacker will be caught. Go to a hospital emergency room for medical care. If sexually assaulted, do not shower or destroy any clothing you were wearing. Do not disturb any physical evidence. Finally, call someone to be with you as you should not be alone.
