Rabun County Recreation Department Receives Prestigious Award

The Georgia Recreation and Parks Association held an awards banquet on Wednesday during their annual conference, and the Rabun County Recreation Department won the GRPA State Agency of the Year for populations under 20,000.

Director Roy Quilliams was on hand to accept the award, and he says that this is the first time that the recreation department has taken home such award.

“It’s a huge honor.” says Qulliams, “People at the conference congratulated us all week long. It just puts us on the map, and people are recognizing what we are doing up here in the mountains.”

When it comes to awards like this, it reflects how hard that the entire department has worked year round. Events such as the trunk or treat, golf tournaments and state basketball tournaments, as well as the new gate at the recreation department played a role in getting noticed by the GRPA.
